Inspection team raises concern over dumping of garbage in the forest area behind the Coast Guard Residential Colony at Santerant

VASCO: Complying with the directions of the South Goa Collector, a team headed by Mormugao Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai inspected eight major garbage dumps in the vicinity of Dabolim airport on Wednesday.
According to information, Desai and officials of the Indian Navy, Airport Authority of India (AAI) and panchayats of Sancoale, Chicolna-Bogmalo, Velsao-Pale and Chicalim visited the garbage dumping sites at Dabolim, Santerant, Chicolna and Zuarinagar. They were surprised to notice the huge amount of garbage dumped close to the airfield.
“Today we inspected eight out of 18 major dumping sites. I have already prepared my report and sent the same to Collector Sachin Shinde,” stated Mamlatdar Laxmikant Desai.
The inspection team has also raised concern over the illegal dumping of garbage in the forest area behind the Coast Guard Residential Colony at Santerant in Chicolna-Bogmalo. Herald had also highlighted the same. The State authorities have taken the issue seriously after naval authorities raised concerns about the garbage menace, which has contributed to the frequent bird hits at Dabolim airport.
