Corruption plaint against Madkaikar

Right to Information (RTI) activists have filed a police complaint against former transport minister Pandurang Madkaikar in connection with the High Security Registration Plates (HSRP).
Kashinath Shetye and Ketan Govekar in their complaint before Panjim police have sought to file first information report (FIR) against Madkaikar, other members of tender evaluation committee and officials of Directorate of Transport.
The duo stated Madkaikar and others should be slapped with charges of corruption, forgery and cheating by conniving with Shimnit Utsch India Pvt Ltd.
The State Government recently cancelled its contract with the company after several lacunaes came to the fore in a report tabled by a committee headed by Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava.
The complainants pointed out that Madkaikar was the transport minister when the notice inviting bids for manufacture of HSRPs was floated.
The complaint states further during Madkaikar’s tenure Shimnit was declared as a successful bidder and a letter of acceptance was issued to the company.
“Madkaikar by-passed the Cabinet and took up the issue himself without placing the scheme before the Cabinet in connivance with his counterparts,” the complaint reads.
“The tender evaluation committee was constituted with the approval of then chief minister and the same was headed by Madkaikar himself,” the complaint mentions.
They stated the irregularities and illegalities have been committed dishonestly to ensure that under any circumstances the tender went to Shimnit.
The copy of the complaint is also addressed to Superintendent of Police (North).
