Pacheco knocks court doors again

Former Tourism Minister, Mickky Pacheco has once again knocked the doors of the Judiciary for bail in the Nadia Torrado death case.
Unsuccessful in getting bail on six previous occasions, the former minister on Thursday filed his bail plea in the South Goa Sessions Court, which will come up for hearing on Friday noon. Pacheco had earlier filed three anticipatory bail applications in the Sessions Court, High Court and the Supreme Court, besides regular bail applications after his custody – two in the Sessions Court and one in the High Court.
In his latest bail petition, Pacheco submitted that he has been falsely implicated for political reasons after he demanded an inquiry into the drug nexus and the excise scam.
Stating that the Assembly session commenced from July 19 and will continue till July 30, Pacheco said his continued detention has deprived him of his right to represent the interest of his constituency in the Assembly.
He submitted that the investigations conducted by the police do not disclose any criminal offence and that no offence under Section 304 of the IPC has been committed.
Saying that no purpose whatsoever will be served by his continued detention in custody, Pacheco said he is the Member of the Legislative Assembly with business stakes in Goa, adding there is no scope for him to abscond from the State.
“I am not in a position to influence or otherwise interfere with the investigations of the case as I wield no power”, Pacheco said, adding that he has become a victim of those who are in power.
Submitting that the findings of postmortem report that the deceased had antemortem injuries is contrary to the medical treatment papers of the deceased, Pacheco said no such injuries were found on the deceased at the time of her admission to Apollo Hospital, Margao or at Jupiter Hospital, Thane.
“No such injuries were also found on Nadia when she was admitted to Apollo Hospital, Chennai”, he submitted and charged the Crime Branch for maliciously charging him for offence under Section 304 and 306 of the IPC.
Meanwhile, the former minister, who has been in police custody since his arrest 13 days, will be produced before JMFC, Margao on Friday morning.
