MARGAO: The Shadow Council for Margao (SCM) on Thursday claimed that the stand of Margao Municipal Council (MMC) over the huge number of commercial premises operating without trade licences is rather astonishing.
SCM Convenor Savio Coutinho demanded that the Council continues the process in the entire city of collecting taxes by visiting door to door.

“Through the statement MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira is trying to suggest as if they have made some kind of extraordinary discovery about the unlicenced premises,” he stated.
He further said that the chairperson should not forget that he was very much a part of the Council during the previous term; and SCM had been consistently raising the issue over the discrimination towards the loyal taxpayers.
“Through RTI information obtained from the Council itself, we had sought to highlight the issue of not just discrimination but also huge loss of revenue to the Council. As a sample, we obtained information about the licenced premises in two complexes in Margao.
