MARGAO: The Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has issued a public notice to defaulters to clear their outstanding dues before December 31, this year to avoid any deterrent or punitive action.
In a warning to defaulters, the MMC administration has reiterated that municipality reserves the right to take all legal actions including cancellation/ suspension of lease agreements as well as sealing of premises.
“Others who are regular in their payment may clear their dues before March 31, 2021. There are several defaulters who have not paid their dues for years. Hence, this is a reminder failing which MMC will be constrained to take a harsh decision. Many citizens are very sincere in making payments but a few need reminders. However, due to COVID-19 situation, individual notices cannot be served. Defaulters may consider this as the only intimation,” said Chief Officer Agnelo Fernandes.
There are present and past dues with regards to house tax, signboards and trade tax. In case of trade tax, the MMC has informed that late payment will result in 25 per cent penalty and if further delayed by a month or later the same will be 50 per cent.
