PANJIM: Justifying the State’s decision to borrow another Rs 100 crore this month after a whopping Rs 580 crore in December, Finance Secretary Daulat Hawaldar said that the borrowing was necessary as the State did not get full compensation from the Centre.

Hawaldar said that the Centre was to compensate the State around Rs 250 crore but only 56 percent of that compensation has been received, so far.
“For the month of October and November the State was supposed to get Rs 250 crore but got only Rs 132 crore,” he said.
Hence, he said, it was necessary to fund the expenditure and State borrowed Rs 100 crore.
The Opposition slammed the government for the rising debt in the just-concluded Assembly session, which they claimed has reached Rs 21,000 crore.
