PANJIM: St Cruz MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate on Tuesday released the election manifesto of his 30-member panel for the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) polls, assuring to set up a garbage treatment plant at Taleigao to tackle waste generated by the capital city.
A new sewage treatment plant (STP) at Patto, de-silting of the neglected and putrid St Inez creek, introduction of hop on-hop off buses and renovation of the municipal market are some of the manifesto highlights which asks people to ‘vote towards wheeling in change for a cleaner, greener and safer Panjim’.
“Panjimites refer to me as leader and man with a mission,” the manifesto states and Monserrate then talks of his ‘legacy, record of services rendered and dedicated commitment to the people at large, especially the weaker section’ assuring people’s participation in every decision.
Monserrate has fielded candidates in all 30 wards. Retaining some of his sitting councillors, the MLA has introduced several new faces, including rebels from the BJP.
Monserrate has emphasised on resolving the garbage issue, wherein he said that around 26,000 sq mtrs in Taleigao can be used for setting up a garbage treatment plant, considering that eight years down the line the Bainguinim waste management facility continues to remain marred in controversy and opposition.
The Panel – Progress for Panjim – has promised to recover pending electricity and water bill dues from occupants of the municipal market and also to sign lease agreements with legal occupants.
Construction of a new municipal building, market for Ribandar, re-development of Campal Parade ground, beautification and renovation of Dona Paula jetty, restoration of Miramar promenade, restoration and maintenance of heritage sites, have been highlighted in the manifesto.
On Sunday BJP had released its election manifesto listing similar promises.
