They (migrants) have built hutments in the CRZ area and they cannot be any rehabilitation package for them. Regarding the protests in Karnataka, the issue had been raised during the Karnataka Assembly. One of the Kannadiga leaders had called me up and requested me to rehabilitate the displaced people, failing which the Karnataka government would raise the issue. But since the hutments have sprung up within the CRZ area and since they are illegal, they have to be removed. They should realize that it is not only the hutments of the Kannadigas, but there were hutments belonging to the locals, as well as from Maharashtra and other States.
These displaced migrants cannot be rehabilitated, but on humanitarian grounds the Karnataka government can write to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to rehabilitate them. But, they cannot assume that rehabilitation will be guaranteed.
