PANJIM: Citing ‘security and safety’ concern, the Directorate of Education has asked schools and parents to discourage students from downloading and using social media apps Tik Tok and PUBG.
In a circular issued to all the heads of the institutions, Education Director, Nagaraj Honnekeri, has asked schools to call for parent–teacher association meetings to create necessary awareness amongst parents and students. These directions were issued, following the recommendation it received from Goa State Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The circular spoke about the need to create awareness amongst parents, guardians and children, in order to prevent the students from downloading or using the ‘Tik Tok’ app and PUBG game.
“Both the apps and games creates the issue of safety and security of children in the State of Goa,” the department mentioned further. “Action taken in time may be of great help in saving some lives,” it added.
The circular has been issued to all schools- government and private, from the primary to the higher secondary school level.
It may be recalled that Union Minister for IT Rohan Khaunte, earlier this year, had said that he will write to the CM demanding that the controversial PUBG game be banned in Goa.
