PANJIM: Residents of Divar are distressed as private bus operators suspended services on the Narva to Old Goa ferry point route since the first day of the New Year.
According to locals, the route was serviced by three buses which have stopped plying since mid-December. Residents of Narva however received a rude shock with the third and only bus also pulled out on January 1, 2013 leaving a population of more than 6000 with no public transport.
One villager stated, “We have to walk for more than two kilometres to get to the ferry point and is very inconvenient for women and senior citizens.”
The sarpanch of Sao Mathias Village Panchayat, Divar when contacted by Herald confirmed that the area of Narva has been suffering after discontinuation of bus service.
Sarpanch Gurudas Bhomkar said, “I am trying to make arrangements with the Kadamba Transport Corporation to get at least two buses on this route.”
Residents on the Narva to Sao Pedro ferry point however seem agitated over inadequate bus services on their route. James D’Mello told Herald that they have only one bus in their area and the gap between two trips at times is more than one hour.
D’Souza said that the government needs to take a serious note of the on-going problems as people have to wait for long hours and are unable to reach their workplace and schools on time.
