MARGAO: The Director of Panchayats has finally declared elections to the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of Guirdolim village panchayat.
Elections for the two vacant posts will be held on October 4, informed Salcete Block Development officials on Tuesday. Elections have been necessitated following the ouster of then sarpanch Milagres de Chandor and the resignation of the deputy sarpanch Flavia D’Costa on August 9. Since then, Guirdolim panchayat had been under the rule of an administrator.
The announcement of elections by the Panchayat Director for the vacant posts assumes significance and comes against the backdrop of the delay in holding the polls. While the post of Sarpanch of Guirdolim and Aquem-Baixo village Panchayats had fallen vacant on the same day on August 9, the Director of Panchayat had filled up the vacant post of Aquem-Baixo sarpanch last week, triggering speculations over the delay in filling up the vacant post of sarpanch and deputy sarpanch of Guirdolim panchayat.
