NCP opposes govt move on coal

PANJIM: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has vehemently opposed the government’s move on coal handling. The party led by Churchill Alemao has raised apprehension that the activity might prove good for the tourism industry.

“We will not allow anyone to convert Goa into a coal hub. The State is presently heavily dependent on tourism, which has given more employment in Goa. If coal handling comes into force, it will destroy tourism. Visitors will stop coming to Goa,” Alemao said while addressing a press conference in the State capital on Thursday.
