CANACONA: Canacona Police arrested a youth from Bhagatwada-Char Rasta, Canacona, on charges of stealing electronic items worth Rs 2.19 lakh and for his alleged involvement in other theft cases.
According to Canacona Police, a British national complained that a burglar had entered his rented flat through the balcony door and had stolen a laptop, two mobile phones, a microphone, portable hard disk, etc, all worth Rs 1,29,800. Another complainant stated that the burglar had decamped with a laptop, one camera, mobile phone, one wireless speaker and some compact discs, all worth Rs 90,000.
Canacona Police was directed to constitute a police team to work out the burglary and theft cases. Canacona PI under his supervision constituted a team headed by PSI Prashal Dessai, HC Vijay Kalekar, PC Santosh Naik and driver Genu Velip under the overall supervision of Sub-Divisional Police Officer S R Goltekar of Quepem Sub-Division.
Canacona Police arrested Vikat Bhagat for allegedly committing burglaries in the premises occupied by foreigners on Wednesday and recovered goods worth Rs 1.62 lakh.
Police further informed that the places selected for committing house breaking and thefts were the premises occupied by the foreign nationals. It was also found that the history sheeter, Vikat, had adopted a similar modus operandi and police had kept a close watch on his activities.
The accused has been involved in seven previous burglary/dacoity cases. Canacona Police is investigating the case.
