PANJIM: A total of 17 candidates will contest the elections to Harvalem panchayat scheduled on October 20.
There will be straight fight in two wards, a triangular in contest in one ward and quadrangular in another. One ward is to witness a contest among six candidates.
According to State Election Commission (SEC), the candidates for ward One are Demgo Sudko Malik and Geetesh Bhikaji Malik, for ward two are Ajay Uttam Malik, Akshata Sandeep Malik, Gauresh Taulshidas Malik, Raju Fatko Malik, Raju Sitaram Malik and Shivram Sadanand Malik, for ward three Mahesh Tulsidas Divkar, Mamta Mahesh Divkar, Priya Fateli Harwalkar and Sneha Vinod Desai, for ward four Gauravi Guruprasad Naik and Sukanya Kamlakant Patil and for ward five the candidates are Asmita Ankush Malik, Rakhee Pritesh Sadekar and Sharmila Ganesh Malik.
Along with the Harwalem panchayat, one ward each of Orlim and Morpirla will go to polls on October 20. In ward seven of Orlim panchayat, candidates Meliny Meureli Pimenta and Nifa Pimenta are in the fray while for ward four (reserved for ST candidates) in Morpirla panchayat, the candidates are Paik Kuiro Velip, Sonu Bhiva Velip and Tulshidas Vithoba Velip.
October 9 was the last day for filing nominations while scrutiny took place on October 10. Nominations can be withdrawn on October 11. Results of the polls will be announced on October 21.
