SGPDA chief denies zone around Holy Spirit Church changed to C2

MARGAO: Chairperson of South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) Dr Renuka Dennis Da Silva vide a press note has refuted all the allegations made by Dr Francisco Colaco regarding the change of zone around Holy Spirit Church and opined that his utterances were politically motivated.
Refuting allegations that the area around Holy Spirit Church has been converted to C2 category, she said in fact it has been changed to Special Residential Zone specifically to allow redevelopment of existing buildings by granting extra FAR.
Pointing out that this aspect was explained to all board members very explicitly she said the change was necessitated as some of the buildings are dilapidated an in unhygienic condition. She said a final decision on the matter will be taken at the next board meeting which will be held after the code of conduct ends and said Dr Colaco’s utterances were actually a violation of the code of conduct.
She further denied that the Ganganelli Rebello road was shown as a 10 mts wide road in the previous plan and not in the present ODP and pointed out that since no land acquisition process has commenced no boundary by the side of the road will be destroyed.
She said linking the Heritage festival with ODP was not only mischievous but politically motivated and pointed out that the conservation zone in the ODP has been extended to include the old market area which is being redeveloped and beautified by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation.
While asserting that the heritage festival is organized to celebrate the rich architectural heritage of the area which is being organized for the first time and said it has to be supported and welcomed by all and sundry irrespective of their political affiliations.
