PERNEM: Former sarpanch of Patradevi-Torxem Baban D’Souza, ZP member Ramesh Sawal and locals have requested the government to reopen the bypass road leading to Banda by provide them with some relaxation to visit the market.
Locals said that Banda market is most convenient place for the people due to its close proximity. People from the villages of Patradevi-Torxem, Mopa-Ugave-Tamboxe, Chandel, Hasapur, Hali and Fakir Pato are dependent on the Banda market and now with the borders sealed they are facing convenience.

Former sarpanch of Patradevi-Torxem Baban D’Souza said, “People are facing difficulties because the borders are sealed and they are forced to travel all the way to Pernem to buy essential commodities since the local representatives have failed to provide required help to these people. Government is allowing all types of vehicles into Goa. Similarly, they should allow the locals to visit the Banda market by following health checkups as done with outsiders to avoid any kind of risk. In name of essential commodities we have received only rice. What about the other items for those who are in need?”
Locals informed that senior citizens, who are totally dependent on their monthly pension, are facing major inconvenience. Banks are open but there are is no public transport.
ZP member Ramesh Sawal said, “The people of the above villages are totally dependent on Banda market to buy commodities. With the borders closed, people are facing difficulty to move out to buy essential items. Since Goa is COVID-19 free and Sindhudurg declared as green zone, the borders should be reopened for the locals.
