Parishioners in Canacona observed Palm Sunday with religious fervour during Eucharistic celebrations in their respective parishes on Sunday.
Palm Sunday is observed all over the world on the sixth Sunday of Lent, bringing back the reminisces of biblical theme, where people welcomes Jesus Christ’s entry into Jerusalem, before he was caught, prosecuted and sentenced to death by Crucifixion.
However, contrary to previous years, only few parishioners with palm leaves attended the church services in all the churches, while all the devotees present made it a point to take home and preserve at least one palm leave.
In Agonda church, blessing of Palm leaves was observed on the open ground outside the church and later in a procession led by the priests entered the church to celebrate the mass.
Parishioners at Agonda were treated to the visit of three other priests, two of who concelebrated the Palm Sunday mass along with Parish Priest Fr Mathew Fernandes.
Fr Orlando from Verna, his assistant Fr Seby Rodrigues concelebrated the Palm Sunday mass, while Fr Bruno who reportedly works in a foreign country took part in the mass along with other parishioners.
