Bethora locals seek probe into death of ‘accident’ victim

PONDA: Bethora residents, along with the Bhetki-Khandola sarpanch, gathered at the Ponda police station on Sunday station to demand a thorough probe into the death of a local on the Banastarim Bridge.
It may be recalled that Pravin Banudas Marcaikar (24) from Ashewada, Bethora, died after a Maruti Swift collided into his motorcycle on the bridge on December 10 at 1 am. Ponda Police have arrested the driver Shadib Shashikant Prabu Velguekar (31), a resident of Kodlim-Tisk, for rash and negligent driving and fleeing the site.
While demanding an investigation, Bhetki-Khandola Sarpanch Sudiksha Khandolkar claimed that the victim’s body had been found 22 metres away from the accident spot, while his backpack was found under the bridge. 
Additionally, she claimed that the victim had not received any head injuries, but injuries and fractures only on his legs, and two of his mobile phones were found damaged. She also suspected that the culprits had attempted to throw the body into the river, but were unsuccessful due to vehicular traffic.
Ponda PI Sudesh Naik assured to carry out proper investigations into the matter.
