PANJIM: Director of Animal Husbandry Siddhivinayak Naik has got a temporary reprieve, as chief secretary Sanjay Srivastava has requested Election Commission of India to reconsider its recommendation to suspend him.
Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava in a letter written to EC has requested it to reconsider the recommendation to suspend Naik. Naik, who was earlier, transferred from the post after he violated the code of conduct, was asked to be suspended by the Commission along with his office head-clerk Janu Kunkolikar.
EC in their letter had said that both should be suspended as transfer is not enough punishment. Srivastava was asked to submit action taken report in this matter by January 31.
Naik has been accused of offering 140 job letters through his department violating election code of conduct.
Based on the complaint filed by BJP, the Chief Electoral Officer had directed state government to initiate an inquiry. The investigation conducted by secretary V P Rao had found Naik guilty.
