VASCO: The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Saturday slammed the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) for delaying the pre-monsoon drain cleaning works in its jurisdiction.
Addressing media persons in Vasco, NCP state president Jose Philip D’ Souza alleged that at some places, pre-monsoon works have not begun.
“The whole pre-monsoon exercise should actually begin well in advance. The rate at which pre-monsoon works is going on, it is likely that the low lying areas in the MMC jurisdiction will be waterlogged during this monsoon. Who will be responsible if there is loss of life or property due to such flooding? It is the duty of council to act well in advance and not play negligently,” D’Souza said.
“On Monday I will submit a letter to MMC Chief Officer asking him to expedite the pre-monsoon works and MMC is yet to start cleaning gutters in many wards. I was informed that some opposition members in the council had raised the issue of delay in undertaking pre-monsoon works. Such delay should not happen. If MMC fails to act even now then we will not hesitate to come on the streets,” D’Souza warned.
