The recent assault on RTI activist Jowett D’Souza by a Colva panch member must be strongly condemned by Goans and Colvenkars in particular. Those who remain silent should remember that if such violent attacks are left un-checked, they will be encouraging a goon culture which can one day affect them and their families too.
The government and Goans must take note of possible political influence, with the RDA minister being present when the panchanama was conducted. People should also introspect on whom they elect. I do hope that justice prevails.

Suspension of cops
I congratulate the Calangute MLA for pursuing the case where an innocent boy was beaten by the police at the Calangute police station and the subsequent suspension of the police constables. (Herald 22/2/2015) I feel the suspension of the cops will serve no purpose and they will be reinstated shortly. They should be dismissed from service for their act. I hope the IGP will look into this seriously.
