VASCO (HR): The sudden move of the Civil Supplies Department to reduce rice and wheat quota triggered anger among residents of Headland Sada and surrounding area.
A large number of women from Headland Sada and surrounding areas went to the office of Mormugao MLA Milind Naik on Saturday morning and urged him to restore the original quota of rice and wheat.
After giving them a patient hearing, Naik then contacted Civil Supplies Minister Jose Philip D’Souza in their presence and was assured by the minister that the problem would be resolved within three days.
The fare price shops which were earlier giving 10 kilos of rice and 5 kilos of wheat to APL ration card holders has suddenly reduce the quota to 5 kilos of rice and 2 kilos of wheat since Friday.
The women complained that while they have been reeling under growing inflation, the present decision to reduce the quota of would further aggravate their problem.
Sources in the civil supply department attributed to the reduction in the quota to the reduced supplies at the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
“Once the fresh quota of rice and wheat arrives at the FCI, the earlier quota of rice and wheat will be available to the consumers,” the source said.
