East Zone’s Duleep Trophy 2026-27 triumph was followed by a light-hearted exchange between captain Ishan Kishan and teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The two players engaged in a fun conversation over successful Decision Review System (DRS) calls made during the tournament, with Kishan playfully accusing the 15-year-old of taking credit for reviews.
Kishan played a crucial role in East Zone’s title-winning campaign and was named Player of the Match in the final after scoring more than 350 runs across the two innings. While Sooryavanshi could not produce his best performance with the bat in the final, the teenager remained one of the most talked-about players throughout the tournament. Apart from his batting ability, he also attracted attention for the leadership responsibility entrusted to him by the team management.

Sooryavanshi was appointed East Zone’s vice-captain and had an opportunity to lead the side when Kishan left the field due to injury. During that period, the youngster got his first taste of making important DRS decisions. Even after Kishan returned to lead the team in the final, Sooryavanshi continued to play an important role in discussions over whether the side should take a review.
One particular DRS incident in the final between East Zone and South Zone went viral on social media. Sooryavanshi was seen convincing Kishan to take a review, and the decision eventually proved correct. The incident led to considerable discussion about the youngster’s instincts and awareness on the field.
However, in a video shared by the BCCI after the match, Kishan jokingly claimed that Sooryavanshi had been taking credit for reviews that Kishan himself had already planned to take. Kishan said the teenager would confidently approach him and suggest taking the review, leading people on the internet to associate the successful decisions with Sooryavanshi.
Sooryavanshi was quick to respond. Reminding Kishan about the period when the wicketkeeper-batter had left the field because of injury, the youngster asked, “And when you were going off the field, who was taking the reviews then?” His witty response brought another humorous moment to the exchange.
Kishan then acknowledged Sooryavanshi’s contribution and praised his proactive approach. He even hinted at the possibility of the youngster becoming a future captain, saying, “Future captain, maybe? Let’s see how it goes.”
