PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and opposition Conrgess party on Tuesday paid tributes to Dr Tristao Braganza Cunha, the Father of Goan Liberation struggle on the occasion of his death anniversary.
Chief Minister placed a wreath at the memorial of Dr T B Cunha at Azad Maidan, Panjim on Tuesday. The police did a guard of honour at the memorial.

Briefing the mediapersons after the function, Sawant said the State government has initiated various steps so that our future generation is enlightened with the immense contribution made by Dr TB Cunha to Goa’s freedom struggle.
Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel, Secretary (Finance) Dr V Candavelou, DGP Jaspal Singh, along with other dignitaries also paid their homage at the memorial. The Goa Police band played the Last Post and national anthem.
Paying his homage to Dr T B Cunha, Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao said that he worked relentlessly for the Liberation of Goa. He is well known for his two books: 400 years of Foreign Rule and Denationalisation of Goans.
Dr T B Cunha was totally committed in the struggle against anti-colonialism. He guided the Liberation struggle and inspired thousands to come together against the colonial powers.
Alemao cautioned, “Dr Cunha stood for democracy and people’s participation in governance. Today, we observe that in Goa, a few individuals are calling the shots. People who oppose bull dozing by government are denigrated as anti-development. Goa is moving towards becoming less and less liberal. This is a dangerous trend.”
