RAIA: Canacona Warriors and Rangers registered wins in the Alcon GSB Unity Cup T20 Cricket tournament organised by Goa GSB Sports and Charitable Trust in association with Goa Saraswat Samaj, at MCC ground, Margao, on Sunday.
It was Canacona Warriors first win of the tournament. Rangers recorded their second straight win.
Canacona Warriors defeated Antruz Rising Stars by 69 runs. Canacona Warriors’ top-order batters Viraj Puranik (30), captain Sukrut Pai (36), Pranav Kamat (35) and Amey Rajadhyax (35) took the team to 160 for 6 in 20 overs.
Chasing a huge target, Canacona Warriors ended Rising Stars’ innings at 111 in 17 overs. Only Nikhil Kamat (25) of Canacona Warriors showed some fighting spirit. Pranav Kamat, who scored some vital runs was adjudged man-of-the-match. He also took 2 wickets for 14 runs.
Rangers defeated Madgaon Super Strikers by 11 runs. Rangers’ Sidhit Raiturkar was adjudged man-of-the-match for his 28-ball 40. Apart from this, Samar Dubhashi (35) and Yash Prabhugaonkar (32) contributed significantly.
Chasing the target, Shivam Amonkar (39) and Sahil Mandrekar (33) put on 65 runs for the second wicket to put the team in a strong position. However, their innings collapsed to 109 for 5. This made it difficult for them to adjust to the rising required rate. They scored 160 runs for 7 wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
Mapusa Dream Crushers (4), Rangers (4), Desserts and More Avengers (2) are in the top three in Group A after the end of the second week of the tournament. This is followed by Madgaon Royals (0), Madgaon Super Strikers (0) and Mathagram Warriors (0).
Antruz Strikers (4) are at the top of Group B, followed by Sinq Rangers (2), Knight Archers (2) and Canacona Warriors (2), CQS scoring Willows and Antruz Rising Stars have yet to open their account.
