A fire broke out at Paras Medical Store near Vishant Theatre in Aquem on Monday morning. Residents in the vicinity claim that the fire’s ignition is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Fortunately, with a swift response from the firefighters, the blaze was brought under control, preventing it from spreading further. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
The incident occurred at around 6 in the morning when concerned citizens notified Sandesh Pai, the owner of the medical store, about the fire. Pai immediately contacted the Fire and Emergency Services (FES), who promptly arrived at the scene.
As a medical store, Paras stocked various medicines that require storage at temperatures below 25 degrees Celsius. The firefighting efforts included the use of water to douse the flames, raising concerns about the potential impact on the stored medications. Sandesh Pai expressed his uncertainty about the extent of the damage but estimated a loss exceeding 50 thousand.
“I received calls early in the morning about the fire in the store, and the people also alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. FES responded immediately. Given the nature of a medical store, with medicines requiring specific storage conditions, it is difficult to ascertain the exact loss at this point. However, I fear it might be more than 50 thousand,” said Sandesh Pai.
Authorities are currently investigating the exact cause of the fire.
