Breakthrough in headless murder case

In a major breakthrough in the sensational headless body murder case, the Maina Curtorim police on Thursday recovered a chopper, koita, besides a knife from a river at Dabal Kirpal-Sanguem which was allegedly used to commit the cold blooded murder of Sultan Bellary.
Margao Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar told newsmen the weapons were recovered allegedly at the instance of accused Sandeep Kalangutkar, who was reportedly driving the Swift Dzire car at the time of incident.
A bag containing the chopper, koita and the knife was fished out from the waters under the bridge with the help and assistance of the Fire Services. “A team of Maina Curtorim police along with the accused went to the river near the bridge today. Since the waters were around 8-10 feet deep, the services of the fire brigade was requisitioned to fish out the bag”, Gaonkar said.
Replying to a question, he said that during investigation, Kalangutkar had allegedly disclosed that there were three occupants in the car, besides him, adding that the police are now on the look out for the remaining three persons.
Asked whether there’s any possibility of recovery of the head of the deceased, Gaonkar said police investigations are progressing in the right direction, adding that things will be clear within the next few days.
The Maina Curtorim police headed by Police Inspector Sidhant Shirodkar has so far arrested nine persons in connection with the cold blooded murder of Sultan Bellary, whose headless body was found abandoned on a roadside at Nessai in Sao Jose de Areal village on January 11.
Police investigations later revealed that the deceased was picked up by the accused persons, who came in two vehicles, a Maruti van and a Swift Dzire car before heading towards Margao.
The statement of the witnesses from Benaulim has been recorded before the Special Judicial Magistrate under Section 164 of the Criminal Penal Code (Cr P C).
