Goa has recorded one of the steepest declines in international passenger traffic among Indian airports, with traffic at Dabolim Airport plunging 69% and Mopa Airport witnessing a 42% drop during the April-June quarter.
The sharp decline comes against a nationwide fall of around 10% in international passenger traffic during the same period.

While Goa’s airports experienced significant declines, the national figures also showed a widening gap between Indian and foreign carriers. International passenger traffic carried by Indian airlines fell by 27%, while foreign airlines recorded a 6% increase in passenger traffic.
Dabolim Airport was among the worst affected, recording a 69% year-on-year decline in international passenger traffic during the April-June period. Mopa Airport also registered a substantial 42% decline.
The figures highlight the challenges facing Goa’s international aviation sector, particularly as the state operates two airports catering to both domestic and international travellers.
The contrasting performance of Indian and foreign carriers also points to changing passenger preferences and international connectivity patterns. While Indian airlines saw a significant decline in international passengers, foreign carriers managed to increase their traffic by 6% nationally.
The steep fall in international traffic at both Goa airports could have implications for tourism, which remains heavily dependent on air connectivity from overseas markets.
