I wonder what our CM, or for that matter any Minister or politician, must be thinking when travelling from Dabolim airport to Panjim, and they arrive at the traffic mess from Cortalim junction.
While Goa is in a complete mess, my heart goes out to my hometown Vasco. The traffic is in a pathetic state and is beyond repair. It’s like the law is in the hands of the people and everything’s going haywire with people driving as and how they like. It clearly shows that the RTO is running short of manpower so much so that one can see them on certain junctions once in a blue moon. Vasco has two MLAs and hence should have been shining. But the residents have to carry on with the traffic woes and think about their own safety.
The present government had a full tenure with the same MLAs but the state of the traffic is getting worse. They need to urgently sort the traffic mess in conjunction with the RTO. The buses are another headache as they keep stopping anywhere, people driving while speaking on mobiles, motorbikers overtaking from the left, many duck the cops without wearing helmets.
If the RTO was really strict, they could easily gather a good amount of revenue from the violators. I request our MLAs to drive around Vasco and see the pathetic sight. Check if there are any cops monitoring traffic in the evenings. RTO must enforce cops patrolling around the city at all times checking for people driving while talking on their cell phones.
Parking spaces are a distant dream and it’s time that strict rules are imposed with heavy fines on the spot. That is the only way violators will adhere to rules. Vasco is choking. It’s time for action. It’s time for our MLAs to prove themselves. Development is important but clearing some mess which is hindering development is more important.
