PANJIM: The Village Panchayat of Canca-Verla has sought a demolition squad to raze illegal structures along a stretch in the village.

The submission was made before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, which is hearing a plea by NGO Goa Foundation alleging new unauthorised constructions along a road stretch was coming up for which there’s a proposal to construct a road or widening the footpaths.
The High Court, in the last hearing, had considered a Public Interest Litigation as it termed the illegality as ‘very serious and disturbing picture’.
During the hearing before the Division bench of Justice M S Sonak and M S Jawalkar on Monday, Advocate A Bhobe, counsel for the village panchayat stated that the demolition orders have been issued in respect of new structures which have been come up during the pendency of this petition.
He further submitted that the State authority may be directed to provide for a demolition squad so that these demolition orders are executed at the earliest.
To this, Advocate General Devidas Pangam replied that the demolition squad will be provided having regard to the seriousness of the matter at the earliest.
“Panchayat as a matter of abundant caution will file caveat before the Director of Panchayats as well as the District Court,” Bhobe said.
