VASCO: Residents of Marivel were annoyed on Friday as government officials and ministers have been frequenting the beach to inspect the scenario of the grounded Nu-Shi Nalini vessel, but have kept the villagers in the dark on the plan of action, objectives and the end result.
On Friday morning the villagers were in a tense state and were questioning when the unmanned vessel, which has become an eyesore for them, will be removed.
Speaking to Herald, a local fisherwoman on the condition of anonymity said that recently Revenue Minister Jennifer Monserrate visited the beach and inspected the vessel. For the past few days, media persons, police, administrative staff have been camping near beach area, but not a single word has been conveyed to the residents of the village on what is to be done. “Why are the ministers and the government officials keeping us in the dark?” she asked.
Another senior citizen said, “I have heard that the vessel contains some flammable cargo, which if it gets leaked can cause severe damage to marine life as well as to the residents. Many people are frequenting this otherwise quiet beach to see the vessel. Till date no one has come to us and explained what is happening and whether we are going to get affected badly because of this vessel. We are really disappointed with the politicians and government officials for their failure to take us into confidence with regards to the Nu-Shi Nalini episode,”
Asked whether they saw any movement near the vessel, locals replied in the negative, but said that if required they might meet and question the minister in this regard.
