MAPUSA: Uttam Rai smashed in two goals on his return to Dempo Sports Club as they proved to be too good for Sesa Football Academy with a 4-1 win in the Goa Football Association’s Goa Professional League at Duler Stadium, Mapusa, here, on Monday..
Dempo started brightly and should have opened their account in the very first minute where a low cross by Pruthvesh Pednekar was timely cleared by Sesa’s defender skipper Myran Pereira before striker Uttam Rai could finish it home.

Five minutes later, Beevan D’Mello’s strike from close was blocked on the goal-line by Myran.
However, in the ninth minute, Dempo scored. A back pass by Sandeep S to his keeper Sapam Nongpoknganba Singh saw the latter come with a miss clearance and the ball landed to unmarked Beevan who smartly drilled the ball into the unguarded goal to give his side the lead.
Beevan missed a glorious chance to double his score having just the rival keeper to beat lobbed the ball over the crossbar.
After fifteen minutes of midfield tussle Uttam Rai fumbled in front of the goal off a low cross from U-20 Richard Cardoz.
However a minute of added time saw Uttam Rai made it 2-0. Collecting a pass from Richard Cardoz moved a couple of steps at the goal and slammed it into the net.
Just eight minutes into the second session and Sesa lads managed to reduce the deficit. A miss understanding by keeper Melroy Fernandes and defender Shallum Pires off a throw in by Aniket Thakur saw Kunal Salgaonkar guide the ball into the goal to make it 2-1.
Sesa were unlucky not to level terms, when substitute Myron Borges seeing an onrushing Melroy lobbed the ball only to see it bounce narrowly past the goal.
The Golden Eagles exerted pressure on the rival citadel and scored two quick goals in the 80th and 83rd minutes through Gaurav Vaigankar and Uttam Rai respectively.
