PANJIM: Panchayat Day and Golden Jubilee Year of PRIs in Goa was celebrated, Wednesday, with the Directorate of Panchayats and Goa Institute of Rural Development and Administration holding a seminar on Panchayati Raj in Goa at Menezes Braganza, inaugurated by Panchayat Minister, Laxmikant Parsekar.
The council of Social Justice and Peace also held a function at Azad Maidan. Government machinery was in full flow with secretary, Panchayati Raj, Hage Khoda, ZP Adhyaksha (South Goa), Nelly Rodrigues, Sarpanch of Bhuyewadi Panhala, Maharashtra, Rani Balasaheb Patil, Director of Panchayats, Narayan Sawant and Project Director of DRDA, S V Naik present at the function.
R Martins told panchahyat functionaries that if panchayat members wanted to be with them they should give people information they sought and it should never be gram sabhas versus panchayats but gram sabhas with panchayats.
“Let us involve gram sabhas for the progress of the people. There will be issues like mega-projects and pollution… but they have to be faced,” he counselled, saying that questions will be asked but solutions have to be found.
