PANJIM: With the remand period of terror suspect Sameer Sardana ending on Thursday, Goa Police who arrested Sardana on Feb 1 are looking for some technical aspects to register an offence against him.
ATS officials said that Sardana will be produced before the Vasco court on Thursday but did not disclose whether it would be to seek an extension of the remand or to seek remand after registering an offence against him.
Inspector General of Goa Police speaking to media on Wednesday evening said, “Sameer is being interrogated, and we have the entire night to establish if there is anything.”
Goa Police are tight-lipped on the matter. After being in police custody for seven days, Sardana was remanded for four days more days in custody after the investigating agency cited a national security threat.
He was continuously interrogated by various agencies, including ATS Goa, IB, Crime Branch and Cyber Cell of Goa Police besides for three days by National Investigation Agency.
Police have so far recovered five passports, seven mobile phone, five SIM cards and one laptop from Sardana, who is the son of retired army officer and has travelled extensively in Islamic countries.
Goa ATS and the other investigation agencies are still verifying the emails he sent and received over the last couple of years.
