PANJIM: The North Goa District Magistrate on Wednesday issued an order prohibiting digging or cutting of any public roads and their shoulders including all the city and village roads without prior written permission from the office.
The order comes following neglectful excavation work by Indian Oil Adani Gas Company in Vasco that led to the damage of the water pipeline and earlier, disruption of power supply.
The prohibition order by DM North further states that the direction shall not be applicable to any road digging done by any government public utility service providing departments such as electricity, BSNL, and PWD for urgent repairs of electric cables, telecommunication cables, and pipelines also dug by local bodies for repairs of road and for diversion of water in emergency cases.
“It is further provided that such emergency digging shall be covered immediately within less than 6 hours of digging and properly paved/cemented within 24 hours. This order will come into effect from June 01, 2022, and shall remain in force for 60 days,” it said.
