MARGAO: An open space turned garden at ‘Furam Dongor’, Curtorim stands totally neglected and no maintenance has further resulted in a jungle-like situation. And hence, locals and social activists have demanded urgent attention towards the garden at the earliest.
Out of five open spaces in and around ‘Furam Dongor’, one has turned into an alleged plot.
Several villages of Salcete, including Curtorim, are struggling to allot open spaces for the public utility due to land shortages. However, open spaces at Curtorim stand were neglected.
Speaking to Herald, J Santano Rodrigues, said that this open space was developed for the sake of public utilities. A special meeting point, besides a jogging track, was aimed at that space.
“It was in 2007-08, when I was a Zilla Panchayat member, under the ZP fund this open space was developed, and it was a proposal of the Village Panchayat Curtorim, but thereafter nobody bothered to maintain or take care, and as a result, we noticed all the bushes over here,” said Rodrigues.
He further urged the panchayat to focus on the maintenance of this garden, and the government authorities should also investigate the grabbing of one of the lands allotted as open space.
“This is a planned area but shockingly the situation over here tells a different story,” said Rodrigues.
