MARGAO: The TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai on Thursday said that his party’s efforts to erect a statue of Dr Jack Sequeira at the assembly complex is a golden opportunity for MGP to prove that it is for Goa and not Maharashtrawadi party anymore.
Vijai was addressing a function of Opinion Poll golden jubilee organised by Dalgado Konkani Akademi at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao.
“All know that MGP was formed for Maharashtravaad and has been part of several governments later. Now, they can make MGP into Mogaal Goenkar Poksh if they stand for Goa,” Viaji said.
He said that if PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar and his party support the move to erect a statue Dr Jack Sequeira, they would prove that the MGP “is not Maharashtravaadi and is for Goa.”
“I am in the earnest hope that they will support the statue push. It is their golden opportunity to (prove their credentials as Goa centric party),” Vijai added.
Historian Prajal Sakhardande said that the new Panjim Bridge has to be named after Dr Jack Sequeira as he was first MLA of Panjim.
“Why don’t we give names of eminent Goenkars to Goan Infrastructure projects?” he asked. He also lambasted the MGP for its past effort to merge Goa with Maharashtra.
“There should be a chapter on the Opinion Poll in school level in 10th standard text book. It has been our old demand that the statue has to be there in assembly. Why the rest are not supporting the cause? Why there is a Mahadashtrawadi party in Goa?” he asked.
Former MLA Teotino Pereira said, “Vijai has taken up the work of getting the statue and I advise him not to look back now and go ahead as we trust you that you will fulfill the aspiration of Goans to have the statue of Dr Jack Sequeira at the assembly.”
