MARGAO: Less than three days after the daring Cavelossim burglary in the apartment of a 77-year-old UK woman, burglars have struck again in the jurisdiction of Colva police last night, even as district police chief Shekar Prabhudessai directed the Colva cops to sensitise the apartment owners to comply with the do’s and don’ts while renting their premises to foreigners.
This time round, a Russian national became the victim of the burglars as unknown miscreants burgled the first floor apartment at Seraulim Tuesday night.
The incident came to light on Wednesday morning that the burglars had gained entry into the first floor apartment and decamped with foreign currency. The matter was immediately reported to the Colva police, but the cops feigned ignorance about the burglary throughout the day. When the media contacted the Colva police station a police constable ruled out burglary, while police station in-charge, PI Uttam Raut Desai was not responding to telephone calls.
The police higher-ups in the district appeared baffled and a worried lot with the burglars striking at will at regular interval, even as the cops appeared totally clueless in the Cavelossim burglary when a 77-year-old UK woman was burgled of her jewellery and currency.
Meanwhile, district police chief Shekar Prabhudessai has told the Colva police to have a sensitization programme for the apartments owners who have leased out their premises to foreigners. “We want to impress upon the apartment owners that before leasing out their premises, they should ensure that the windows and doors are well protected with iron grills. The owners will be told to ensure that their guests do not sleep with the doors and windows open. Such simple precautions can indeed help the police to curb the incidents of burglaries along the coastal belt,” SP Prabhudessai told Herald.
