Goa police lack discipline: Sinari
MARGAO: Former Goa IGP (retd) Prabhakar Sinari on Sunday lamented over the lack of discipline in the Goa police force because of interference by political godfathers, even as he called upon the government to pay attention of the requirements of the police and their families.
Speaking at the launch of the autobiography of retied SP V V Vernekar “Such Am I Vishudas” at the Ravindra bhavan on Sunday, Sinari said underlined the need to bring about discipline in the police force from top to bottom. “Where are the weekly parades. Today, complaints are galore against the police for not registering crimes. If they hide crimes, a situation may come when concerned police stations may not be eligible for additional facilities”, he said.
“The police have their godfathers. Even IPS officers deputed in Goa have their godfathers in Delhi. So much so, even when a memo is issued to them, there’s a big hue and cry by their godfathers”, he added.
Touching on allegations of corruption in the police department, Sinari said there is no doubt corruption in the department, but demanded to know whether any other department is free from corruption.
“All the pillars of democracy are hit by corruption. The name of the police department is tarnished when a constable ask for a bribe. But, is anyone demanding to know why employees don’t even report for work in other departments but take away their salary packets”, he said.
