PANJIM: The Indian Meteorological Observatory (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall warning for Goa from June 10, as the southwest monsoon currents are likely to be active over the west coast of India.
Though the Southwest monsoon had its onset over Goa on June 5, it has not picked-up yet. IMD has forecasted that monsoon currents will strengthen from June 10.

In a press statement issued, IMD has said that a low pressure area is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood around June 11.
“With this, south westerly winds over Arabian Sea also likely to strengthen from June 10 onwards,” IMD said.
“Southwest monsoon is very likely to be active along the west coast of India, including Goa for a period of four-five days from June 10,” the weather agency added.
IMD has warned of heavy rainfall ranging between 115.6mm to 204.4mm of rains in 24 hours, over Goa from June 11-13.
The southwest monsoon arrival over Kerala coast was delayed by two days and it reached only on June 3.
IMD has predicted above normal rainfall this year.
Last year, Goa received historic 162 inches of rainfall, highest in a century, despite the monsoon reaching the coast on June 11.
