CANACONA: Cyclonic winds together with heavy rains in the intervening night of Thursday and Friday uprooted many trees damaging residential houses and electrical alignments causing huge losses in Canacona taluka.
Second day in a row, Canacona had to bear the brunt of high intensity cyclonic winds accompanied by heavy rains which caused at least seven trees to fall on residential houses, electrical alignments and on the road keeping the firemen busy throughout Friday.
Fire and emergencies office at Canacona said that they had to attend to 11 emergencies calls since Friday early morning, while most of the trees fell on houses there were three incidents of trees falling on electric overhead power lines at Palolem alone causing financial losses to house owners and damages to the electricity alignments.
Normal life for some was disrupted as there was power disruption at some of the villages. According to the fire office, trees falling on houses were reported at Mastimoll, Bhatpal, Mashem and Palolem. However, due to the efforts put in by fire fighters lead by leading fire fighter Ravi Devidas and Ulhas Gaonkar with the help of fire fighters Goutham Velip, Prashant Velip, Chetan Prabhu, Vivekanand Naik and driver operator Ashok Gaonkar properties worth lakhs of rupees were saved.
