MORJIM: Taxi owners from Mandrem coastal belt have requested the government to take action against GoaMiles drivers, who they alleged that instead operating point-to-point, spend time in the beach areas and defecate in the open thereby causing inconvenience to the locals.
Sanjay Kole, a taxi owner claimed that GoaMiles drivers, who come to drop passengers along the beach belt, spend the night in their taxis and in the morning visit the beach and defecate in the open.

The taxi owners also pointed that since these app-based drivers operate in the tourism belt, only five per cent of local taxis are getting business while others are left jobless.
They said the government should realise why the taxi owners are not willing to join the app if it feels that this app is good and beneficial to taxi operators. The taxi owners demanded that GoaMiles taxis be kept under the companies and factories and not in the tourism areas since the locals, who are totally dependent on tourism, are suffering.
“We have 500 taxi owners in Mandrem and we are ready to compete if the government keeps the same rate for local taxis and app-based ones”, Prakash Phurke a taxi owner said.
