PANJIM: Clive Anthony Gracias from Chinchinim has been selected as the King Momo for Carnival 2024 to be held from February 9.
The Department of Tourism conducted a screening to choose the King Momo from a total of six applicants participating in the selection process. The selection was based on his pleasing personality, excellent communication skills and presentation.

Gracias has harboured the dream of being the King Momo since his childhood, and his selection for the prestigious role is a testament to his unwavering commitment to the cultural vibrancy of Goa.
The Carnival floats parade will be held at Porvorim, Panjim, Margao, Vasco and Mapusa from February 9 to 13, embodying the essence of regenerative tourism.
King Momo is always the centrepiece of Carnival floats parade where he declares his decree for the three days festival.
Timoteo Fernandes from Panjim became the first King Momo in 1965 when he walked the Panjim streets. He followed it again the next year.
His brothers Lawrence, Tome and Bondo wore the King Momo crown too. Tome had the distinction of becoming King Momo more than two occasions. His younger brother Bondo is also a percussionist by profession.
The previous King Momo ace dance performer William Annes in 2019 and Russel D’Souza in 2023 too hailed from Panjim.
The Carnival floats parade will be held in Porvorim, Panjim, Margao, Vasco, Mapusa from February 9 to 13, 2024 respectively with an aim of celebrating the festival with as much tradition and cultural significance as possible.
A committee appointed by the Department of Tourism is actively workingto create a memorable and authentic experience for all; along with the infrastructure amount which is Rs 20 lakh.
