SSC exam begins today

A total of 17,843 students will take a crack at the language subjects on the first day of the Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination in the 23 centres across the state earmarked for the purpose. The exam ends on April 10.
Out of the 17,843 candidates, 9,091 are boys and the remaining (8,752) girls. Another 2,013 will answer the examination in the exempted (repeaters) category. The maximum number of students (1,741) appearing this time is from Mapusa, while the minimum (182) is from Sanguem.
Like last year the stakeholders in the education sector will look forward to a satisfying result one which will once gain surpass their expectations. Last year’s SSC pass percentage stood at 77.12 per cent which was considered good compared to other years.
Impressed by the landmark SSC and HSSC results the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education started a research on why the outcome had been good compared to the last five years.
Sources in the board said the research was still on and the findings were yet to be made known. Board Secretary D R Bhagat said it was best to talk to the Chairman Merwyn D’Souza to learnabout the status of the research. However, the chairman was unavailable for comment.
Education officials are once again looking forward to see a repeat performance by government high schools that did well at last year’s SSC board exam. Ten out of the total 71 schools scored 80 per cent and above marks. More than half of these schools had a pass percentage of 60 and above.
The Mulgao Government School in Bicholim taluka registered 95 per cent result while the one in Dhargalim, Pernem, came out trumps with 94.44 per cent. We expect these and few other schools to repeat their performance this year too, the officials said.
