PANJIM: The Goa Public Service Commission has re-advertised the 12 posts of mamlatdar/ joint mamlatdar/assistant director of civil supplies, up from five posts they had advertised previously. The commission has also asked those applicants who had applied earlier, to reapply if they so wish.
Of the 12 posts of the same cadre advertised by GPSC, two have been reserved for ST and one for physically handicapped. Those who had answered the written test and were set to answer the oral interview were completely disappointed since the process was scrapped.
“It is informed that the process which commenced with Advertisement No. 7/2012 has been treated as closed/cancelled. Candidates who have applied in response to Advertisement No. 7/2012 are required to submit fresh applications, if they so desire,” a note below the advertisement issued in various newspapers on Saturday reads.
Twenty one of the 700 candidates who were short listed are now aghast that they have to go through the entire process again. They felt that if the government had more posts to fill, they should have started a separate process only for those new posts.
It may be recalled that Herald had reported how the government at the eleventh hour had cancelled the entire process of filling up of the five posts first advertised on grounds that the government had taken a decision to increase the number of posts.
It was also noticed that the son of Civil Supplies Minister Dayanand Mandrekar had applied for the post, but did not pass the written test and was therefore not short-listed. Mandrekar had denied that the process was scrapped because his son did not get through, or that he had anything to do with the scrapping.
“Just because some sons and daughters of politicians could not get through, does that mean they should scrap all the posts?” an aggrieved candidate did not wish to be named asked Herald.
In July 2012, the GPSC advertised for five posts of mamlatdars/ joint mamlatdars/assistant director of civil supplies, all of which are under the same cadre. Three of these posts were for general category candidates and two were for reserved categories.
On September 1, 2012 the GPSC released the syllabus for the exam and also announced that the written test will be held at the end of September, 30, 2012.
The written test was conducted and of the 700 candidates who had applied, 21 were shortlisted and called for personal interviews in the result published on October 30, 2012.
On November 7, 2012 the short-listed candidates received a call letter asking them to come for interviews on November 19. However, three days before the scheduled interview on November 16, 2012 the candidates got a letter saying that the interviews had been postponed.
After a brief lull, the GPSC again called the short listed candidates for an interview through a letter dated March 20, 2013 informing that the new date has been fixed on April 8 and April 9. However, the candidates were in for a bigger shocker. Two days before the scheduled dates for the interviews, they receive an SMS saying that the entire selection process has been cancelled.
The formal letter announcing the cancellation of the selection process is dated April 9, 2013, the second day originally scheduled for interviews.
