Irineu secures third place at Scrabble Nationals

Irineu Gonsalves from Verna, an international scrabble player secured third place at the Bayer National Scrabble Championship held at Juhu Ville-Parle Gymkhana, Mumbai recently.
The competitive three-day event spanning 26 rounds attracted 60 players from across the country.
Sherwin Rodrigues took top honours, while Jose de Abreu, (Mumbai) had to be content with second place. Places from 4-10: Nakul Prabhu (Mumbai), Mohan Chunkath (Chennai), Varisht Hingorani (Mumbai), Udayan Grover (Pune), Carolann Pais (Mumbai), Charles Carneiro (Delhi) and Sanjoy Gupta (Bangalore).
The top 5 at this prestigious tourney will represent India at the Causeway Challenge in September in Malaysia, preceding the World Scrabble Champioship WSC.
Douglas Lobo and Basil Pinto did Goa proud by being among the prize winners finishing at 13th and 15th respectively. Jacky Fernandes, Joe Rodrigues, Savio Pinto and Sylvia Coelho were the other representatives from the State.
