PANJIM: The State government has said it will submit a detailed affidavit in the High Court of Bombay at Goa regarding measures to resolve dumping of waste along the roads.
The High Court is hearing a contempt petition filed by advocate Aires Rodrigues that alleges government inaction to control the menace along the Panjim-Old Goa bypass.
When the matter came up for hearing on Wednesday, Advocate General Dattaprasad Lawande told the Court that the government will file a detailed affidavit on measures being taken to resolve the illegal dumping of debris along the roads across Goa with sites being designated where debris can be deposited. The Division Bench comprising Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice Prithviraj Chavan thereafter adjourned the further hearing to March 7.
Rodrigues had drawn the attention of the Court that dumping of mud in low-lying fields along the Ribandar-Merces road was ongoing with hundreds of illegal huts mushrooming in the area. Rodrigues had pointed out that in 2007 a PIL was filed over rampant dumping of building debris along the Panjim-Old Goa bypass road and that various orders came to be passed by the High Court which was disposed on June 26, 2008 based on a Minutes of Order signed and submitted to the Court.
