CANACONA: Local Congress leaders in Canacona have called upon party workers to jointly take on the BJP to ensure that the Congress candidate leads in Canacona constituency in the forthcoming parliamentary elections.
A large number of Canacona Congress block workers attended the meeting in municipal hall at Chaudi on Wednesday evening, while local leaders made a valiant call to bury their internal differences.
Incidentally, friends-turned foes Congress leader Isidore Fernandes and Poinguinim ZP member Daya Pagui shared the same platform, with both calling for unity in the party and to jointly work to ensure to give Congress a thumping lead from Canacona constituency.
Fernandes highlighted the hidden agenda of the BJP to undermine the lower strata of the society and asked the workers to tirelessly work to garner votes for South Goa candidate Reginaldo Lourenco.
“The one and only election meeting addressed by Congress candidates and other top leaders will be held at Chaudi old bus stand on April 5,” informed Fernandes.
Voicing similar sentiments, Pagui also asked the workers not to leave this opportunity to show BJP its right place.
Others who spoke at the meeting included Canacona Municipal Council Chairperson Mahadev Dessai, Councillors Simon Rebello, Ratnakar Dhuri, former chairperson/PCC member Rajendra Dessai, Canacona Block Youth President Sumeet Bandekar, NSUI leader Vaibhav Phaldessai, PCC member Janardhan Bhandari, former sarpanch Ashok Velip and Rajendra Velip (Gaondongrim), Rajesh Gaonkar (Cotigao), besides Congress leaders Mario Fernandes, Natividade D’Sa among others.
Workers were later asked to prepare for the canvassing, where a series of corner meetings will be organised in their respective areas.
