PANJIM: Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) on Thursday said that it is open to extend support to independents or candidates of regional parties in the remaining 24 constituencies, reiterating that party will go all alone in 16 constituencies in the upcoming 2022 Assembly elections.
Addressing the media persons, MGP chief Ramakrishna Dhavalikar said that party has already finalised candidates in 12 constituencies and in the coming week, more names will be added.

Dhavalikar said that the party’s Executive Committee will meet next week, to decide on more names.
“We are going independent in 16 seats…even if we go for alliance, there will be no compromise on these seats….in the rest 24 seats, we are open to support independent or candidates of regional parties,” he said.
“There is absolutely no scope to support National parties like BJP or Congress. We can even support regional parties that have entered from other States,” Dhavalikar said indirectly hinting at Aam Aadmi Party and Trinamool Congress Party.
The party is set to contest in Marcaim, Ponda, Shiroda, Priol, Mandrem, Pernem, Sanvordem, Mapusa, Dabolim, Bicholim, Curchorem, Mayem for now.
Stating that the BJP has ditched MGP in 1994, 2005, 2016 and in 2019, Dhavalikar said that it was “mistake” to trust BJP again and again despite betrayals.
