VASCO: A crowd of over 2000 people from Sada, Jetty and Bogda area gathered at the public meeting held at the ground opposite Mormugao police station on Sunday to show their solidarity to Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, over the issue of alleged recent attack on him.
In a memorandum to Police Inspector Pravin Pawar, Naik’s supporter have requested the police to conduct regular patrolling, not allow people to sit at the Sada junction and to detain any suspicious and notorious persons found at Sada.
To show their support and to express their anguish over the recent alleged attack on and verbal abuse of Minister Naik, over two thousand locals flocked to the ground near Mormugao police station demanding strict action on Suraj Chodankar.
Meanwhile, during the public meeting many supporters such as Councilor Murari Bandekar, Sarika Palkar, Prasad Prabhugaunkar, Sanjay Parab, Mohan Dicholkar and others addressed the gathering and expressed their solidarity with Minister Naik.
They also condemned the recent alleged attack on the minister and all opined that as a Good Samaritan, Naik was performing his duty towards the people, for their safety, by trimming the tree branches which was in a dangerous condition. “But Suraj (Balan) Chodankar has claimed that Naik wanted to cut the tree, which is absolutely false,” they said.
Speaking to the media, Councilor Shashikant Parab stated that efforts are being made to obstruct the developmental work pursued by Milind Naik. He further said that the Sunday meeting was to condemn the alleged attack over Minister Naik and also urge police to take strict action on the miscreants who try to disturb the law and order of the society.
Another councilor Sarika Palkar stated that she would like to congratulate Minister Milind Naik who despite the attack on him, went ahead and trimmed the dangerous branches for the safety of the people. Palkar added that she condemns the alleged attack on Minister Naik.
Prajay Mayekar said that the meeting was held to condemn the alleged attack on Minister Naik. “We will take legal advice and people’s opinion on the future course of action,” he said.
